If you had an MR2 convertible I’d take that, but I think I’d go for the Mazda here, even though the MR2 is better in a lot of ways. If I’m getting a “toy” car, I want it to have a removable roof.

I think I’d want to work on an MR2 as much as I’d w ant to work on a rotary (very little) . BUT SW20 all day long for me.

I'll second the flying dorito here. Convertible plus wankel sounds in a fun weekend car is pretty amazing.

Easy MR2.

The turbocharged MR2s do have cooling parts known as the “HFH” and “HFHOE,” or “hose from hell” and “hose from hell on earth” respectively. I’d almost take the Mazda, based on what I’ve read about MR2 Turbo maintenance. Reliable, but when something breaks, oof.

Mine’s the Camry-engined NA base model, and isn’t too bad. Coolant flushes are still pretty gnarly though.

I’m a third party voter

Plus it’s basically half Lancia. Yeah, we’ll go with that.

So I take it you’ve never read about rotaries

MR2 and it’s not even close. And I own a rotary.

Definitely have read about them; doing frequent oil changes to keep a motor running nicely doesn’t seem too bad.

That said, the 5S-FE motor in my MR2 has handled far gnarlier situations than I’d ever trust a rotary to survive in. I daily drive my MR2 but I’d hesitate to do that in a rotary car.

It’s the Alfa Spider, the car that lived so long it makes the 2020 Nissan 370Z look young!

That’s not a bad choice. ‘60s style with ‘90s reliability.

No contest with the picture, MR2. But I’ll take a 91 ZX

Same, actually. I have my MR2 because a friend of mine who drives a Z32 convinced me not to buy a Z32. I was dead set on a Z32 until she talked me out of it.

That one in the picture is pretty similar to the spec I’d do:

A classic Black Emerald Pearl over silver wheels (and preferably a tan interior) would be 10/10.

MR2, but I have a bias as an MR2 Spyder owner.

I changed from a 4000 mile a year job (public transit) to 20,000 miles a year and immediately bought a second car.
